ROAD TRIP

Extended Garden Route, South Africa.

The Garden Route is one of the best ways to introduce yourself to South Africa. It is an amazing self-drive trip covering a stunning stretch of coastline in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces. The official starting point of the Garden Route is Mossel Bay to Storms River, however, we highly recommend stretching the route a little further, starting in Cape Town and flying home from Port Elizabeth.

There is nowhere quite like Cape Town. Its rich natural and cultural heritage is unique. Nestled among the majestic Table Mountain National Park and pristine white beaches lies a vibrant and lively city. Cape Town is home to world-class restaurants, hip markets and a thriving art scene. In our view however, to truly appreciate modern day Cape Town, a visit to Robben Island and The District Six Museum are poignant reminders of what the city has experienced and what has shaped it to become the place it is today. Cape Town is not only a melting pot of people, it is a melting pot of emotions. It is beautiful, inspiring, challenging and sobering, the mixture of which keeps you returning time and time again.

Past Cape Town’s borders a world of adventure awaits. Stunning vineyards, mountain ranges, national parks, charming towns and rugged coastlines. A sprinkling of bungy jumping, kayaking, game drives, penguin spotting all thrown in for good measure! Your TripMapper travel itinerary app will help you plan for and budget this epic SA adventure!

Best time to visit South Africa (weather): Year round, with spring (September to November) and autumn (April to May) ideal almost everywhere.

The majority of New York’s best known tourist attractions can be found in Manhattan. For lunch why not feast on a delicious pizza slice in Little Italy or grab a bagel on the go? Your afternoon could be spent browsing boutiques in SoHo or learning the history of Ellis Island. After dark, if Broadway doesn’t beckon, there is an abundance of Michelin-starred restaurants to choose from.

The city’s four outer boroughs, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, have plenty of their own charm and flavour. Brooklyn entertains multitudes and the fantastic views of the city’s landscape are unparalleled. Queens' food scene will satisfy every taste and is home to stunning flora at Queens Botanical Garden. India's Golden Triangle

India’s Golden Triangle, the route between Dehli, Agra and Jaipur, is a fantastic introduction to the sights of the country. The triangle’s third corner, Jaipur, is the gateway of Rajasthan, the land of the Maharajas and a land to explore.

Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital, is as mesmerising as it is colourful and chaotic. At its heart lies the ‘Pink City’, the old walled quarter, where you’ll stumble upon the splendours of Jaipur’s majestic past including the Hawa Mahal and the impressive City Palace.

The leafier area south of the ‘Pink City’ is home to the Ram Niwas Gardens while the city’s outskirts are dotted with intriguing relics, most notably Nahargarh Fort, the cenotaphs at Royal Gaitor and Galtaji Temple, which is home to hundreds of monkeys! About 11km northeast of Jaipur is Amber Fort, a formidable fort overlooking Maota Lake.

Jodhpur is another of Rajasthan’s colourful cities. The ‘Blue City’ is centred on a labyrinthine old walled town, whose mass of blue houses is overlooked by the imposing Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur is also gateway to the Thar Desert where villages are home to desert dwellers.

Striking architecture and colourful cities are not the only jewels in Rajasthan’s treasure chest. Ranthambore National Park, a beautiful national park, is another precious gem. Ranthambore boasts a rich wildlife population, including tigers and leopards who roam through the deciduous forest ornamented with crumbling remains. The park’s other highlights include Padam Talao lake and Ranthambore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Best time to visit India's Golden Triangle (weather): October to February.
